Aldo Herrera Ruíz (NEORIS): “Companies Don’t Always Make the Most of Their Networks"
For this specialist, the ease of creating and managing networks in cloud environments can lead to disadvantages such as non-compliance with security standards, increased costs, and poor IT governance policies.

Aldo Herrera Ruíz, a cloud architect at NEORIS, has accepted DealerWorld's invitation to analyze the simplified network market, particularly at a time when reducing complexity in the implementation of any type of solution is a constant challenge in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
"Data networks are no exception to this reality. Their implementation and management require specialized knowledge, and complexity increases as the volume of data transferred and the number of connected devices grow. Network expansion and management can lead to errors, excessive time consumption, increased costs, reduced flexibility for changes, and security issues. Therefore, there is a need for simpler network management to minimize the deficiencies faced by companies with traditional data networks," he states.
In his view, the increasing adoption of the cloud by companies is directly tied to network simplification. Cloud providers offer services to centralize data networks, reduce physical infrastructure, and enable automation in network creation and management through APIs, "aligning with the principles of software-defined networks (SDN)."
Networks are not fully utilized
Unfortunately, Aldo Herrera Ruíz believes that companies do not always make the most of their networks. "The ease of creating and managing networks in cloud environments can lead to disadvantages such as non-compliance with security standards, increased costs, and poor IT governance policies. This may create the impression that using cloud providers' network services is a disadvantage. Many companies are using the technology but not leveraging it adequately. To reverse this situation, it is crucial to train personnel dedicated to technological infrastructure and continuously improve implementations."
The value of services
"The growing adoption of the cloud in recent years shows that companies understand the definition of Network as a Service (NaaS) and the benefits this model brings," explains Aldo Herrera Ruíz.
While some companies might not be familiar with specific terms and concepts, he believes the use of this model is implicit during cloud adoption, as networks are created and managed with each provider. "To make this model a reality, cloud providers have implemented Software-Defined Network technology, allowing customers to create networks on demand without the need for traditional hardware," he adds.
"Small and medium-sized businesses may not be as familiar with software-defined cloud interconnection, which is understandable since this concept and technology are gaining traction primarily among larger companies with more complex connectivity needs. Companies with bigger budgets or broader expansion tend to adopt a multi-cloud or decentralized cloud strategy for various reasons, such as pricing, compliance, and security. Whatever the reason, there arises a need to simplify the interconnections between different cloud providers and data centers through a software-defined network, where SDCI adds value to achieve flexible, scalable, and secure connectivity."
The channel's role
Aldo Herrera Ruíz highlights the excellent work being done by the channel in educating companies on the benefits these technologies offer. He acknowledges that "many companies choosing to migrate to the cloud or maintain hybrid environments leverage the network-as-a-service and SDCI models according to their needs. This results in faster delivery of solutions or products. The advantage of this technology lies in reducing complexity in network management, allowing businesses to focus on what truly matters."
