The tech industry is advancing rapidly, yet the low female participation remains a crucial challenge. Globally, women occupy only 20% to 30% of tech positions, despite their valuable contributions. Gender equity must be a priority to drive innovation and growth.
Despite efforts to promote diversity, women in tech continue to face significant barriers: gender stereotypes that question their capabilities, a lack of mentors in a male-dominated field, and difficulties balancing work and personal life. These challenges limit their professional development and undermine their confidence. Addressing these barriers is essential to ensure a truly inclusive tech sector.
Closing the gender gap in technology requires fostering interest in STEM disciplines from an early age. Initiatives like programming and robotics workshops for girls are key to motivating them toward tech careers. Companies also play a crucial role by implementing equitable hiring policies, mentorship and development programs, and creating inclusive work environments. Tracking and measuring these advancements ensures that diversity remains a sustainable strategic priority.
It is concerning that only 26% of tech positions globally are held by women, with this figure dropping below 5% for women from other minority groups. With the increasing demand for STEM skills—projected to be required for 75% of future jobs—accelerating efforts to include more women in these sectors is essential.
Investing in science and technology, especially for women, is not only a matter of fairness but also an economic necessity. In 2024, over 12 billion pesos were allocated to promote the inclusion of girls and women in STEM fields. This effort is vital to ensure that women participate in and lead the technological and economic development of the country.
Through initiatives like NEORIS’s NEOWoman program, the commitment to female inclusion in technology is reinforced. In October 2024, the second edition of the NEOWoman #RaiseYourVoice event took place, providing a platform to showcase the work of women leaders in the sector and reaffirming the company’s mission to keep opening doors for women in the industry, creating an inclusive environment where they can thrive.
The future of technology is inherently tied to inclusion. Companies that fail to recognize the value of diversity limit their ability to innovate and compete in a demanding global market. NEORIS is leading this change with programs like the Purple Academy for emerging leaders, DUX mentorship, and the Violet Academy, which drives female technical talent. Investing in the next generation of women is essential to foster innovation, creativity, and economic growth. Technology needs more women; together, we can build an inclusive future.
